Kristján has 16 years of extensive experience in lighting design and has been part of a design team for various international projects. Kristján has also worked as a light artist and set up light art projects around the world.

Kristján started his career at Lúmex lighting design in 2004, After working as a lighting designer and artist for a few years, Kristján went on to study lighting technology and then lighting design, which he completed in 2009.

Kristján was hired by EFLA Engineers in 2013 as a lighting designer and worked with EFLA for five years both as a parttime consultant and a fulltime employee. In 2015 Kristján moved to Edinburgh and started working with Kevan Shaw at the KSLD design studio focusing on the renovation project for the Glasgow School of Art. In the begin of the year 2018, Kristján moved back to Iceland to lead the merger between KSLD, based in Edinburgh and EFLA Engineers lighting division, based both in Iceland and Norway, transforming to a global team based across three countries. Kristján worked as the International Design Director for a year until starting Hildiberg design studio. While working on the idea for Hildibeg design studio, Kristján worked with Liska lighting and electrical Design studio. Hildiberg design house opened in midyear 2020.

Kristján is certified as a professional lighting designer from the British Engineering Association ( CBISE - SLL ) as well as being a member of the dark sky association.
